7th, 8th Oct - Current Affairs



The 83rd Air Force Day 2015 was on 8 October 2015 observed across India. 


The book titled The Courage to Act - A Memoir of a Crisis and Its Aftermath authored by Ben S. Bernanke was released.

Book titled The Clintons' War on Women authored by Roger Stone and Robert Morrow.

1. Utkal Alumina International Limited (UAIL), a unit of Aditya Birla Group, has launched a unique project 'Project Saksham' for the welfare of communities living in the vicinity of its project area in Odisha. 


2. Indian cyclist Deborah Herold in the first week of October 2015 bagged one gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the 2015 Taiwan Cup held at the Hsin Chu Velodrome, Hsin-Chu city in Taiwan.

3. Sergey Karjakin of Russia has won 2015 World Cup Chess Championship held at Baku, Azerbaijan. He is also the World’s youngest Chess Grandmaster at the age young of 12 years and 7 months.


4. International Monetary Fund (IMF) released the Global Financial Stability Report October 2015 entitled 
 Vulnerabilities, Legacies, and Policy Challenges-Risks Rotating to Emerging Markets.
5. Tomas Lindahl (United Kingdom), Paul Modrich (US) and Aziz Sancar (US) have jointly won 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

6. INS Astradharani was commissioned into Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

7. Union Cabinet has approved the Protocol amending the Double Taxation Avoidance Convention (DTAC) India-Israel and Double Taxation Avoidance Convention (DTAC) between India-Vietnam.

8. Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved World Bank assisted National Watershed Management Project- Neeranchal.

9. Union Cabinet gives nod to 3 new AIIMS at Nagpur (Maharashtra), Manglagiri (Andhra Pradesh) and Kalyani in West Bengal.

10. United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) projected that India’s gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to grow at 7.5 per cent in 2015.

11. National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed all commercial vehicles entering Delhi to pay environmental compensation charge in addition to the toll tax.

12. Ellen Kullman, chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DuPont, an American chemical company, announced retirement from her positions.

13. Nualgi, an Indian company with entirely Indian technology in the field of nano biotechnology won the Popular Choice Awards at the Climate CoLab of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge.

14. Department of Biotechnology (DBT) tied-up with US firm Prakash Lab to provide the Prakash Lab’s low cost paper folding-microscope, the Foldscope to students in India.

15. Russia on 4 October 2015 won the Women’s European Volleyball Championship title. This was the 19th title for Russia. Medal Tally - Gold: Russia, Silver: Netherlands & Bronze: Serbia

16. Hoesung Lee of South Korea has been elected Chairman of Inter-governmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC).
IPCC Headquarters: Geneva, Switzerland.

17. Infosys veteran Ashok Vemuri resigned from his position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of iGATE Corporation.

18. Union Cabinet on 7 October 2015 approved the construction of National War Memorial and a National War Museum at Princess Park near India Gate, Delhi in memory of all Indian soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice for the country post-independence.Estimated cost of the project will be around 500 crore rupees. 

19. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Conference 2016 will be held in New Delhi from 8 January to 10 January 2016.Union Government also announced that it will organise the 9th Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (RPBD) at Los Angeles California, USA on the 14 November and 15 November 2015.
