                                       Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840. It marks a major turning point in history; almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way.
Ø  increasing use of steam power
Ø  development of machine tools
Ø  change from wood and other bio-fuels to coal

It began in Great Britain and within a few decades had spread to Western Europe and the United States.

    2.    Development and growth of new socio-economic classes
    3.    Investments in new technologies
    4.    Mass production of goods
    5.    Development of capitalism

Why it has started from Britain:

ü  England had more colonies than any other nation
ü  Colonies had rich textile industries for centuries
ü  huge amount of Iron and Coal Ore was available
ü  Government was stable and the power of king rose
ü  England is the political center of Great Britain, an island
ü   English merchants were very wealthy

The Spread of the Industrial Revolution

¶  Mid-1800s Great Britain, the world leader in the Industrial Revolution, attempted to ban the export of its methods and technologies, but this soon failed.
¶  1812 United States industrialized after the War of 1812.
¶  After 1825 France joined the Industrial Revolution following the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars.
¶  Circa 1870 Germany industrialized at a rapid pace, while Belgium, Holland, Italy, Sweden, and Switzerland were slower to industrialize.
By 1890 Russia and Japan began to industrialize.
